Throughout our history, we have pioneered medical advances that save lives and protect against disease. For example, we performed the first successful adult human heart transplant in the country and the first combined heart-lung transplant in the world.
As part of the Stanford Medicine, Stanford Hospital & Clinics has a close relationship with both theStanford University School of Medicine, the oldest medical school in the Western United States, and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, an adjacent pediatric teaching hospital providing general acute and tertiary care.
Stanford's ability to provide state-of-the-art care is enhanced by the close collaboration among these entities and their mutual commitment to patient care.
Stanford Hospital & Clinics is located on the northern end of the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, California. The hospital is about 20 miles north of San Jose, and about 40 miles south of San Francisco.
Surrounding fountains and gardens provide a soothing atmosphere for patients, family and friends. Within the hospital, our collection of more than 500 original pieces of art and 1,600 posters is on display in hallways, waiting rooms and offices.
