Use our guide to learn which trials are right for you!

Dr Matt Leavitt founded Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS) in 1980. Over three decades, ADCS grew to be the largest Dermatology group practice in the US. At this point, ADCS has over 60 offices and sees over 500,000 patients per year. In 2004, Dr Leavitt recognized that never before has there been an opportunity to provide this many patients access to clinical trials. Nor has there ever been the ability to provide to those conducting clinical studies the potential to access tens of thousands of patients. Dr Leavitt assigned James A Solomon, MD PhD, as the Director of the Clinical Research Division of ADCS also know as Ameriderm Research, to undertake the challenge of establishing the largest networked clinical research group in the country.

The mission is to involve ultimately all of the 70+ providers from the 60 + offices of ADCS either to directly participate in research studies or to identify and refer patients to these studies. Several key sites throughout Florida have been established as primary research sites. Initial primary clinical trial sites include Ormond Beach and Kissimmee with the recent addition of a Jacksonville site. Others will follow as needed. The remaining offices will become satellite sites which will help recruit study patients.

ADCS is primarily a dermatology practice; thus, the majority of studies in which we participate are skin disorders. These include inflammatory, neoplastic, and infective skin diseases. In addition, we participate in cosmetic product studies and laser studies. Additionally, our patient's disorders are not limited to skin problems. Thus, we will cooperate with family practice physicians and other specialist to fully expand the clinical studies into other areas of medicine.

In order to achieve these goals we not only work with CRO's but also directly with medical research divisions of pharmaceutical, laser, cosmetic, neutraceutical, and pharmaceutical companies. Utilizing our enormous patient base, we work with several universities to expand the number of patients being studied under government and non-government grants.

Each clinical trial site is attached to one of our clinical practices where patients from infancy to geriatrics are seen for any dermatologic issue. All skin problems are evaluated and treated medically as well as by surgery, Moh's and cosmetic medical services are provided. Aesthetic services are available at each office including products, facials, and chemical peels, microdermabrasion. Laser services are available at nearby offices.

Each clinical trial site is part of the overall ADCS dermatology practice involving over 60 offices, seeing over 500,000 patients per year. Most of the physicians and Physician extenders are dermatologists but the practice also includes providers who are trained and practice in dermatopathology, plastic surgery and family practice. Patients can be recruited not only from a clinical trial site but also from nearby offices and/or the overall practice data base.

Dermatology/Plastic Surgery

Ameriderm Research has three clinical trial sites currently contracting for new studies (Ormond Beach, Jacksonville and Kissimmee, FL) There are plans to open additional sites in Oviedo, Tampa and Miami area within the next year.

The Ormond Beach site functions as both the operations headquarters as well as the main clinical trial site. It is conveniently located on Granada Blvd, (State Route 40) about five miles from I-95 and about three miles from the Atlantic Ocean and A1A beach area. The research division occupies about 2250 square feet of a brand new dermatology office of about 4500 sq feet. The clinical side has routine dermatology, cosmetic, aesthetics, and Moh's surgery. The research side has its own waiting room with comfortable chairs and a flat panel TV. There are up to 5 exam rooms available to research. There are several dedicated rooms: photography, file storage, lab, and drug. We have -40 degree freezer, a refrigerated centrifuge to -20 degrees, routine refrigerator with freezer, a research grade microscope with Kohler illumination and with digital computer software capture capability. The office is part of the multi-office computer cable ether- and intranet systems, with outlets available for monitors. There are dedicated phone extensions as well as a fax line. A dedicated work area is available for monitors, which includes a desk, telephone, and cable access to internet. We also utilize computer software programs to manage the studies, schedules, marketing, paperwork, etc.

The Kissimmee clinical trial site is conveniently located across from the Osceola Regional Medical Center only a few miles from the Florida Turnpike as well as from I4 and Disney Land. The research department occupies about 1000 sq feet of the office. The clinical site utilizes up to 3 exam rooms, has an office with workspace for two, locking clinical files, and a -20 freezer. There is a lab with centrifuge, refrigerator and clinical microscope. The office is part of the multi-office computer cable inter and intra-net systems, with outlets available for monitors.
