Southeastern Medical Research Institute (SMRI) is a independent research facility that conducts device and phase II, III, and IV trials. SMRI has the highest standards of employment for its professional staff and requires continued educational courses for its employees. All of our Investigators are board certified in their specialty. SMRI has also has Certified Clinical Research Coordinators and Certified Clinical Research Investigators. We are involved in clinical research in urology, women's health, and men's health.

Urology

William M. Harper IV, MD, FACS, CPI
Dr. Harper has been a practicing board certified Urologist for 23 years and has his own private medical practice, Urology Center of Columbus, LLC, which treats both adult and pediatric urology.
He was born and raised in Americus, Georgia and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1978. He finished his internship and residency in surgery and urology in 1983.
Dr. Harper is Past-President of the Muscogee County Medical Society and the Muscogee County Physicians Foundation. Dr. Harper received the Muscogee County Physician of the Year Award in 2000 for his community leadership and as Chairman in providing Columbus and the State of Georgia with the First Annual Men's Health & Fitness Conference and Expo in June 2000.
On January 18, 2001, Dr. Harper was appointed by Governor Roy E. Barnes to the Georgia Commission on Men's Health, which is the First Commission on Men's Health in the Nation. On March 27, 2001, Dr. Harper was elected Chairman of the Commission on Men's Health.
Dr. Harper has been involved with clinical research as a Principle Investigator since 1997. He holds membership with the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Southeastern American Urological Association, and the Chattahoochee Valley.
Urological Society (Past President). He is also a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and the Rotary Club of Columbus. He is a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and is a member of the Administrative Board.
Angela Seeds, PA-C, CUAP, CCTI
Angi Seeds, PA-C is from Mobile, AL where she graduated in the summer of 2004 from the University of South Alabama and passed the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants exam in September of 2004. She earned a Microbiology degree from Washington State University in the spring of 1978. In the meantime, she has raised three children and is a proud grandmother. She has enjoyed being active in her community, with extensive experience in volunteer positions, including scout leader, religious education teacher, and executive board positions for several PTA groups. Angi has been trained by Dr. Harper and works directly under his guidance. She specializes in male and female sexual dysfunction. She also directly supervises the urodynamics and pelvic floor therapy for nonsurgical treatment of urinary incontinence. She is the only female certified PA specializing in urology in our area.
Sean A. Castellucci, DO
Dr. Sean Castellucci earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his clinical internship at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in General Surgery followed by a general surgery and urologic surgical residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was chief resident. Dr. Castellucci has also completed a clinical externship at Memorial Sloane Kettering Oncology Center during his residency.
Dr. Castellucci is very involved in research which has earned him both national and international recognition, including many publications in peer reviewed journals. His investigations focused on new innovations in urologic, oncologic surgery including the first single port access laparoscopic adrenalectomy performed; as well as research in other fields of urology including prostate cancer.
He has presented at numerous, internationally recognized meetings including the American Urologic Association, the European Association of Urology, and the World Congress of Endourology. His research has also earned him various distinguishing awards including the Robert C. Erwin literary award, as well as the Leonard Finkelstein award in Urology.
His professional memberships include the American Osteopathic Association; the American Urologic Association, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Dr. Castellucci has also been involved in numerous community activities ranging from volunteering for prostate cancer screenings to the presentation of seminars at nursing homes on urologic topics.
Stephanie Thomas, LPN, CCRC, CUA' Supervisor, Clinical Research
Stephanie Thomas, LPN, CCRC, CUA graduated from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in 1995. Currently she is an active member of the Society of Urological Nurses Association and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. She is a past member of the Pediatric Endocrine Nurses Society and the PENS Conference Planning Committee. She is a certified Clinical Research Coordinator by the ACRP and a certified urologic associate through SUNA. Stephanie has been involved in clinical research since 2001 and has experience in endocrinology, primary care and urology trials. She is responsible for quality assurance, patient recruitment planning and budgeting. Her nursing and research background gives her exceptional experience and knowledge as supervisor of Southeastern Medical Research Institute.
Veta Robinson, LPN, CCRC
Veta Robinson attended the Army Practical Nurse Course at Ft. Bliss, TX and has been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 1987. Veta has experience in a vast range of nursing from school nurse to director of an assisted living facility. Veta is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Veta has been involved in multiple clinical research trials since September 2004. Her research background includes the therapeutic areas such as primary care, urology and gastrointestinal trials.

Certified ultrasound technicians perform all sonogram testing.
SMRI provides 24 hour, 7 day week coverage for research patients in case of an emergency.
