St. James Healthcare has played an important role in the history of Butte. Founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, St. James has been known for generations for its mission of compassionate care and service to the poor. For more than 130 years, St. James has provided care for the sick and served the poor and the vulnerable.
Today, that commitment is accompanied by St. James' reputation as a technological leader in Montana's health care industry.
A Catholic hospital, St. James Healthcare is one of Montana's largest comprehensive hospitals, serving the health care needs of people in a seven-county region. It remains today a part of SCL Health System, which includes 7 hospitals in Kansas, Colorado and Montana. The other two Montana hospitals are St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings and Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
