The Nevada Cancer Research Foundation Community Clinical Oncology Program (NCRF-CCOP) has been funded as a CCOP by NCI since the inception of the program in 1983. There have been many changes and much growth since then.
The NCRF-CCOP was initiated as a free-standing, non-hospital based CCOP, in order to better serve the Las Vegas community as a non-partisan entity. Its founding members consisted of three medical oncologists, two radiation oncologists, two local hospitals, and a handful of physicians from various supporting specialties. The NCRF-CCOP membership has grown to include over 75 hematologists, oncologists and radiation oncologists within 10 physician practice groups and five affiliate hospitals that encompass the entire state of Nevada. Overall, approximately 90 % of the oncologists, hematologists and radiation oncologists living in the state of Nevada are part of the NCRF-CCOP program.
The NCRF-CCOP investigators and staff are multidisciplinary professionals committed to enrolling patients on NCI clinical trials. The main NCRF-CCOP office continues as a free-standing, non-hospital based institution located in Las Vegas where most of the population is located. Adult and pediatric patients in the Las Vegas metropolitan area are offered the opportunity to participate in treatment, cancer control and prevention and biology studies. Each of the three hospitals in the north has provided a research office and staff to provide regulatory and data management support for the northern physicians as they see patients in the hospitals and in their private offices. Adult patients in the Carson City/Reno area are offered the opportunity to participate in treatment, cancer control, prevention and biology studies.
