Development and Evaluation of Techniques for Computer Aided Detection and Diagnosis From Radiologic Images

RATIONALE: Studying a new computer program to find and diagnose cancer or other diseases by
evaluating radiologic images may help in planning cancer treatment and may help the study of
cancer in the future.

PURPOSE: This study is evaluating a computer program to find and diagnose cancer or other
diseases using radiologic images.

OBJECTIVES:

- Determine whether techniques for computer-aided detection of cancer or other diseases
using radiologic images can be developed with a sensitivity of > 90% and < 5
false-positive detections per study.

OUTLINE: Existing radiographic data (e.g., MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, nuclear medicine,
and/or mammography) are evaluated with the Computer-Aided Detection and Diagnosis (CAD)
program. Results of other diagnostic tests, such as blood tests and other imaging, and
demographic and clinical information from the patient's chart may also be used.

PROJECTED ACCRUAL: A total of 1,000 patients will be accrued for this study.
