Defining Markers of Susceptibility to Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) Within High-Risk (HR), Multiplex NPC Families
RATIONALE: Collecting and storing samples of blood, saliva, throat tissue, and urine from
patients at high risk of nasopharyngeal cancer to test in the laboratory may help the study
of cancer in the future.
PURPOSE: This research study is looking at markers for cancer in families at high risk of
nasopharyngeal cancer.
OBJECTIVES:
- Evaluate the clinical utility of serum Epstein-Barr virus antibody testing for the
identification of individuals at increased risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC)
within high-risk NPC multiplex families.
OUTLINE: Participants undergo ear, nose, and throat examination (i.e., collection of blood,
saliva, nasopharyngeal tissue, and urine and undergo a nasopharyngeal swab) and complete a
brief risk factor questionnaire. These samples are used for future studies.
