Ohio Pediatrics is a private pediatric practice composed of eight pediatricians and two nurse practitioners practicing at two locations. Our current patient population consists of over 15,000 infants, children and adolescents. We add approximately 500 newborns to our practice every year. The mission of the Ohio Pediatrics research team is to conduct clinical trials involving infants, children and adolescents in order to provide patient access to emerging health care, promote provider expertise and competency in the pediatric field and lastly to improve the global health care of children.
Ohio Pediatrics has been actively participating in clinical trials since 2001. We have participated in multiple vaccine studies, asthma studies, formula studies, otitis media studies, ADHD studies and an eczema study. We have worked with Merck, Sanofi Pasteur, GSK, Abbott Laboratories, McNeil Pharmaceuticals, Medimmune and Novartis. Our specific areas of interest and expertise include vaccines, infectious diseases, asthma, allergies and ADHD. However, we have a large patient base from which to draw and would be willing to consider any type of general pediatric study.
Dr. Julie S. Shepard is the Principal Investigator for this site. She has a B.S. from Yale University in 1980, and an M.D./M.P.H. from Columbia University in 1988. In May 2003 she attended the ACRP course entitled “Intermediate CRC Trainingâ€. She has been practicing pediatrics since 1991, and has been a managing partner at Ohio Pediatrics since 1995. She has been the principal investigator for most of the studies done at this site to date. The other physicians and nurse practitioners in the practice serve as sub-investigators, helping with patient recruitment and follow-up.
We have 3 full time study coordinators and several other nurses in the office who help with clinical trials. All of our staff members are familiar with and supportive of the clinical trials being performed in the office.
Ohio Pediatrics has been in business for almost 20 years and has approximately 15,000 active patients. Our two offices are in Huber Heights and Kettering, which are both suburbs of Dayton Ohio. We have primarily a working class and middle class patient population. Approximately 60% of our patients are managed care and another 15% are Medicaid. Our 500-600 newborns every year come primarily from four hospitals in town. The majority of our active patient population is aged 0-5, but we care for patients all the way up to age 21.

Pediatrics/Neonatology
Ohio Pediatrics is primarily an out-patient pediatric practice with eight board certified pediatricians and two pediatric nurse practitioners. We admit and follow our patients at Children's Medical Center in Dayton. We have approximately 15,000 active patients and add 500-600 newborns to our office every year. One of the advantages of being a private practice is that we have an excellent relationship with our patients, which helps with recruitment and follow-up. We also have an excellent staff who enjoy the many challenges of conducting research. Our offices have easy access from the highway and are on the public bus lines.
