The Pediatrics Clinical Research Unit is affiliated with a 60-physician pediatric subspecialty group and the area's only free standing tertiary hospital, providing access to a wide range of primary and subspecialties. Our research facilities are fully equipped with the most current communication and research technologies.
The Center for Pediatric Research and Monarch Medical Research have conducted hundreds of hospital- and community-based trials with federal and industry sponsorship. These two research centers merged in July 2007, becoming the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Eastern Virginia Medical School. We have experienced enthusiastic participation, with subject recruitment exceeding projected enrollment goals. Using standard operating procedures, the Pediatrics CRU is able to efficiently support clinical trials from study design, budgeting and institutional review board (IRB) submission through subject enrollment and follow-up. Our clinical research coordinators and regulatory support personnel are specialists and well trained in pediatric clinical trials.
Pediatrics/Neonatology
Our facilities include examination rooms, on-site physician investigators, and a full complement of clinical research coordinators, and regulatory and administrative support. Our experienced team provides rapid protocol review and study initiation. Trials are conducted with over 60 pediatric sub-specialists in most major therapeutic areas who are affiliated with the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, a 146-bed acute care hospital with over 78,000 outpatient visits and 33,000 emergency visits annually, and the only free-standing pediatric hospital in Virginia.
