
The U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center's mission is the conquest of cancer through innovation and collaboration Our Center is one of only 41 U.S. centers to earn the National Cancer Institute's "Comprehensive" designation by meeting strict guidelines for:
◦ Extensive, interactive and innovative clinical and laboratory research;
◦ Participation in NCI testing of new therapies;
◦ Significant cancer prevention and control research;
◦ Provision of patient education, community service and outreach as well as training for health professionals.
Today, the Cancer Center is home to 22 different research programs: 6 programs conducting basic science research (laboratory studies), 14 focused on clinical research (studies involving the participation of patients), and two dedicated to developing and testing strategies for cancer prevention and control.
