The integrated academic health center at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care, its teaching hospital, has contributed to medical research for nearly two centuries. Recently, our academic health center has dramatically increased its clinical research productivity by using innovative methods of recruitment and state-of-the-art technology, evolving into one of the top research centers in the region. In order to meet the needs of our industry partners, our clinical research enterprise is structured with a focus on integrity, promptness, and flexibility, enhanced by the extensive resources of the institution, including the Vermont Children's Hospital, the General Clinical Research Center, the Vermont Cancer Center, the Vermont Lung Center, a dedicated Research Pharmacy, and many other research services. In addition, our outstanding relationship with private practices in the region strongly enhances the recruitment activities of clinical trials.
As one of the first medical schools founded in the United States, groundbreaking medical research has been a hallmark of the institution for decades. Among the many innovations developed here include a breakthrough new medicine for life-threatening sepsis pioneered by our researchers, and development of new treatments for depression in senior citizens. We are one of only 20 states in the nation to have both a National Institutes of Health-funded General Clinical Research Center, a National Cancer Institute funded Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our long history of excellence in research, teaching, and patient care, coupled with our dedication to attracting quality research projects, ensures that research conducted here will be efficient, effective and completed on time. We are an investigational site with nearly 200 years of clinical research experience in conducting Phase I - IV trials. In addition to study coordination, our staff can provide consulting in protocol development and design, manuscript preparation, and medical writing.
